Lushan (Sarina) Sun, Ph.D.

Born in Jiangsu, China and raised in Louisiana, US. Sun is currently an Assistant Professor in the Institute of Textiles and Clothing at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong SAR, China.

As a fashion academic, Sun has a background in retail management and traditional textile/apparel design techniques (slow design, embroidery, natural dye, and resist dyeing). Currently, her effort centres around exploring direct digital manufacturing technologies/processes to help sustain the fashion industry.

Her design research team (Digital Materials Group) focus on topis of interdisciplinary nature and fall within the realm of human-computer interaction (HCI), including 2D/3D CAD and Ai technologies, the integrations of Direct Digital Manufacturing technologies, such as 3D printing (3DP) in flexible wearables, and sustainable material innovation for additive manufacturing, including bio-mass composites.

Sun specializes in design cognition in applying Direct Digital Manufacturing technologies, including 3D printing, 3D modelling, digital textile printing, 3D body scanning, and 3D simulation. Her work today also includes specialty material development for additive manufacturing (3D printing), such as biomass composites.
